The Challenge

My challenge was identifying leadership opportunities within my role. I wasn’t sure if I was truly taking on opportunities or where there was room for improvements. I asked myself, am I really a leader in what I do?

How She Found Us

I get my information and news from social media. That’s how I learn about events like the ELS Forum.

At the Event

The leadership sessions at the Executive Leadership Support Forum helped me approach and answer my initial challenge. There was a specific session where the speaker mentioned that they weren’t able to sit in on any of the meetings their director or manager held in the 9 years they were there. That made me think about my own role and how I am always invited to all of the staff meetings and updates, keeping me always aware of what is going on. Getting invited and involved in these meetings allows me to keep tabs on everything and how to prioritize. The value I took from that session at the ELS Forum made me realize how much of a leader I already am within my role here with my team. It helped me recognize how open, flexible, and progressive our team is to really value the admin as a part of the team.

Advice

Professional development helps you build on skills like project management, leadership, how to work with a team, and effective communication with your manager and team. It’s important that admins take advantage of these forums. In and of itself, the networking alone is invaluable.
